Chasing the Sugar Dragon and Kicking the Habit
Cadbury’s Marvelous Creations, Heinz Tomato Ketchup, a glass of freshly pressed apple juice, dried cranberries, a Nakd Bar……. Sweet, tasty food items; promising you pleasure, comfort, and reward, however delivering quite the opposite. Sugar is a sweet, but evil being.
In the words of Mary Poppins, ‘A spoon full of sugar’ does not help the medicine go down; quite the contrary, it leads to addiction and cravings.
Sugar is everywhere; it is in our food, in our drinks, and what’s more, it is lurking in some of the most unexpected places.
Sugar’s effect on the body can be massive; leading to heart disease and obesity. On a smaller scale, sugar can lead to spikes in blood sugar levels leaving you cranky, irritable and aggressive; it lowers your immune system and can leave you tired with low energy, it can give you spots, and make it difficult to sleep!
